ARCOLINUX VISION
KEY ELEMENTS

PHASE 1

If you start learning linux then XFCE is a great way to start. If you know your way around the system then we can start learning Openbox. You will see it again as a challenge to know how this desktop environment works.  The ultimate challenge then will be to learn to work with a window tiling manager like i3, which is mostly keyboard driven. Each desktop environment increases in complexity.

PHASE 2

ArcoLinuxD is a stripped down ArcoLinux iso. No applications (firefox, vlc, …) No desktop environments.

After phase 1 you know what desktop you like and you install the building blocks yourself together with our Youtube tutorials.
We will install Xfce or Openbox or i3 together.

PHASE 3

ArcoLinuxD is a stripped down ArcoLinux. No applications (firefox, vlc, …) No desktop environments.

There are other desktop environments you can explore. Let us install them together like Awesome, Gnome, …

PHASE 4

ArcoLinux will give you the power the change the ArcoLinux and ArcoLinux iso and give it a personal touch.

Insteal steam or obs-studio on the iso… anything really.

Remove and add applications at will. Then burn your personal iso.

PHASE 5

Let us install Arch Linux together.
Let us install it the “Arch way“.
Choose the building blocks.
Choose the desktop environment.
Choose the applications.

PHASE 6

Making an iso like ArcoLinux is a time intensive and knowledge intensive project.

We will go into ALL the technicalities users see but also all the details going on at the back-end office like the repo’s, github, workflow management,…

Provide an operating system with all applications with personal theming installed but also bluetooth, printers, …
After the installation no fuss and all fun.

Provide a continuous stream of tutorials and knowledge on ArchMerge.

Easy setup. No technical knowledge.
Low in cpu and memory consumption
Provide all icons, themes, cursors, wallpapers, … out of the box.
Provide Windows users a comfortable transition to the (Arch) Linux world.
Blazing fast.

THE PAST

ArchMerge is a merger of 3 desktop environments. Xfce4Openbox and i3. We think this order is the ideal roadmap to learn more about linux and Arch Linux. The complexity of the desktops increases gradually but your settings of your applications, icons, themes and your files move with you from desktop to desktop. Quite an advantage.

THE PAST

ArchMerge is the continuation of the vision Erik Dubois had for ArchLabs 5.0 or R2-D2.

Erik Dubois has been a lead project engineer at ArchLabs till end August 2017.

ArchMerge will continue to follow his vision.

Erik was previously active on the ArchLabs Project

ABOUT THE LATEST RELEASE

The video was taken some days before 26 June 2017. Mid July I created my last ArchLabs iso R2-D2 or 5.0.

We had decided to include i3wm in the ArchLabs R2-D2 iso. Because frankly I was missing this great tiling window manager. That was the hot news I wanted to share in the video. This i3 config is my personal config that had been traveling with me from system to system.

On https://erikdubois.be you will see that there is a menu called i3. You can install i3 on any distro like ubuntu, linux mint, solus, …

Take the time to explore i3. Many tutorials have been created to set you going.
